The Seward Arts Council received a $1,000 mini-grant for their 2019-2020 Seward Community Winter Family Movie Series “Earn a Ticket” Program.
Program organizers distributed 250 free movie tickets amongst youth organizations, such as schools and the Boys & Girls Club in Seward and Moose Pass communities. Leaders and staff within the organizations would give free movie tickets to youth who demonstrated good behavior or were experiencing a need due to financial hardship. The ticket includes admission, popcorn, and a bottle of water.
In the first year, the “Earn a Ticket” Program turned out to be a huge success! Seward Arts Council said, “The program is great in that it rewards good behavior and creates linkages between youth, local groups, and the Seward Arts Council.”
The Winter Family Movie Series fills a much-needed gap for family entertainment in the community during the long winter months. The program, which runs from October through May each year, shows two movies every Friday night at the Rae Building. The cost of admission for those who do not qualify for the “Earn a Ticket Program” is $2.
