Grantee Highlight: Seward Homeless Connection Seavey Fund will support outdoor education and recreation.

This year Seward Community Foundation provided $10,000 in two allocations to the Homeless Connection, a non-profit organization working to provide stable housing and help to cover the costs of basic living needs in the Seward area. Carolyn Roloff, director of the Homeless Connection, stated that with the Covid epidemic, there was an increased number of people experiencing homelessness or critical housing situations in the Seward area.

The first grant allocation of $5000 in September was used to help with various costs for individuals in the community. The Homeless Connection provided individual assistance based on various needs that included heating assistance, eviction prevention, and security deposits to enable individuals to move into a stable housing situation.  In total, the grant allowed the Homeless Connection to assist over 20 people in our community who were homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Because of the growing need for housing security due to the pandemic, a second grant was awarded to support the ongoing work and mission of the Homeless Connection.
