Grantee Highlight: Seward TYC It's good to be a kid!

Every year the Seward Teen Youth Center provides enrichment summer camp opportunities for local youth. In the summer of 2019, the TYC had an ambitious goal of taking Seward and Moose Pass youth to many activities, including a trip to the Anchorage Zoo, A Mars Mission at the Challenger Center, an overnight Nocturnal program at the Sea Life Center, a day trip out on a Major Marine Tour Boat among a bunch of other opportunities.

Seward Community Foundation was proud to be among several local businesses to support these efforts. Although the smoky hot summer of 2019 curtailed some of the activities, the TYC was able to provide a wonderful array of experiences for its participants. In addition to assisting with programming, SCF funds were used to provide training for their staff. The sessions included ACES, TBRI, and Growth Mindset training. All of which offer essential skillsets to the summer staff.

The TYC Summer Enrichment Program was possible through the generosity of many local and state businesses. The Seward Community Foundation provided $5000 as a major grant through the SCF’s Unrestricted Fund.
