  • Giving Change to Make Change Ukanuzit's change jar is supporting local nonprofits!

    Have you wondered if your spare change can make a big difference? We are here to tell you that it does! Local thrift and consignment store, Ukanuzit recently donated $1,200 to the Seward Senior Center’s “Meals on Wheels” program, all from money raised through their change jar. “We have seen how much the Senior Center has done to keep seniors in Seward and Moose Pass fed during this pandemic,” said Ukanuzit owner Melissa Houselog. “Dana Paperman and her crew at the Senor Center hold a special place in the hearts of many, including ours.”

  • Nonprofit Highlight: Iditarod Trail Blazers Shining a spotlight on the Iditarod route from Seward to Girdwood.

    The Iditarod Trail Blazers was originally conceived back in the late ’70s then became a bonafide 501c3 nonprofit in 1982.  Dan Seavey, along with Lee Poleski, Bill Hightower, and a bunch of the teachers, created the organization to shine a spotlight on the history behind the Iditarod Trail and reclaim the route leading from Seward.

  • Supporting Seward’s Veterans Seward Senior Center Partners with American Legion Post 5

    Last April, through a partnership with the Senior Center, the American Legion was awarded a $4,500 discretionary grant to help pay for utilities, heat, and propane for May and June. The loss of summer tourism, combined with the mandated shutdown, had taken away the Legion’s ability to create the income needed to cover its basic needs. The grant funds allowed the Legion to keep minimal operation while being closed.
